Smittens
Turn a favorite old wool sweater, or one found at a thrift store, into a pair of cozy mittens that will keep hands warm all winter long. This class includes guidance, tips, and techniques to help create something both practical and giftable for any age. Basic sewing skills are helpful. There is a $5 supply fee payable to the instructor for the pattern. Materials can be provided for an additional $20 if needed.
Bring the following to class:
- Sewing machine and thread
- 1/3 yard, fleece fabric
- 100% wool sweater, washed in hot water and dried on hot (to shrink)
- Scissors or rotary cutter and mat
- Sharp pencil or fabric marking pen
- ruler
- pins or fabric weights
- seam ripper

Sandra Bengtson, owner of Avant Garb Fashions, was fortunate to learn how to sew by her mother at age eight. Decades later, Sandra’s passion for sewing has paved the way to fulfilling a lifelong dream; teaching others. As her mother did for her, Sandra is committed to spread her love of sewing. Sandra believes that providing a warm, inclusive classroom environment with fun and laughter, maximizes the learning experience and may even foster new friendships.
